Personal Interests

Dr. Karnstedt is happily married to Michael Watts. Together they have two daughters; one of which attends the University of Georgia. Outside of the office, she enjoys cooking, making jewelry and working in the yard.


Dr. Laena Karnstedt is a board certified internal medicine physician. She received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1991 and completed her internship there in 1992. After finishing an externship in outpatient internal medicine in Waltham, MA, in 1993, Dr. Karnstedt completed her residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston in 1995. Dr. Karnstedt has been practicing medicine since 1992 and has been in Northeast Georgia since 2000.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 2008, she received the American Heart Association’s Physician of the Year award at the Northeast Georgia Regional Heart Ball. She has a special interest in women’s medical issues and enjoys being a preceptor for nurse practitioner and physician assistant students. Dr. Karnstedt opened her solo practice in Cumming, GA, in October 2010.
